Open Golf

St. Andrews Links has six beautiful courses with their own distinctive character. No matter what your level of golf is, you can find great enjoyment. The sixth course, the Balgove, is a nine-hole course primarily for children and beginners, and is recognized as one of the finest in the country.

The return of the Open Championship to St Andrews makes the Old Course the most frequently used course for the tournament.

The first time the open was played here was in 1873, the most recent, the Millennium Open, in 2000, showcased the superb victory of the great Tiger Woods, with a record 19-under-par score of 269 . The course has been slightly lengthened since Tiger’s great victory, with the creation of new championship tees.

Likewise hotel accommodation in St Andrews is very scarce at this time – so be prepared to live a little ‘off site’. Fortunately there is a great hinterland of lovely Scottish hotels and other accommodation nearby.
