Elie

Elie is a wonderful seaside resort in the East Neuk of Fife and a popular day out for many visitors to St Andrews and the surrounding areas. The beautiful town is formed around an impressive curve of golden sand and features a historic harbour that is popular among small yachts and boats. The bay itself is filled with windsurfers and sunbathers in the summer months, and there is something for everyone to enjoy on a day out in Elie.

In addition to being a stunning seaside town, Elie has rich golfing links. James Braid, five times winner of the British Open Golf Championship and a celebrated golf course designer, was born in Elie. The town features two impressive golf courses that are popular among locals and visitors alike.

Visiting Beaches In Elie

The Kingdom of Fife is home to many excellent beaches, and Elie Harbour beach is one of the best in the area. The harbour itself links with the adjacent Elie Earlsferry Beach, which offers nearly one mile of uninterrupted south-facing sand and sea.

Elie boasts four wonderful sandy beaches, as well as a unique volcanic beach. The volcanic beach is often filled with families sifting through the sand in search of famous Elie Rubies. The Elie Harbour beach is the busiest of the bunch and offers various activities such as sailing, pedaloes, canoeing, and inflatable water rides.

Golfing In Elie

The Elie Golf Course and Elie Sports Club Golf Course are both expansive golf facilities in the seaside town. The Elie Golf Course is placed just minutes from where James Braid was born and was the course he used to learn to play the sport. It is one of Scotland’s most picturesque seaside golf courses and is a top choice for visitors to the area.

An unusual feature of The Elie Golf Course is the World War II submarine periscope that is used by players to ensure the first fairway, which is positioned over a hill, is clear for first tee shots.

Elie Sports Club Golf Course is a 9-hole course that is challenging enough for most golfers, yet gentle enough for those with less experience. There is also a driving range, short game practice area, and 18-hole putting green within the multi-sports facility.
